Scalp Micropigmentation

People suffering from alopecia or any other condition that causes hair loss can benefit greatly from SMP (scalp micro-pigmentation). Whether it’s used for adding density to thinning hair or completely restoring a hairline, it offers perfect, undetectable results almost instantly and with very minimal inconvenience and aftercare.

Using cosmetic tattoo, we deposit tiny amounts of pigment into the scalp to replicate hair follicles. It is a completely natural, non invasive treatment that gives the appearance of tiny hairs growing out of the scalp that can completely restore the hairline and add density to thinning hair.

SMP may be used in combination with platelet rich plasma, or PRP to give the appearance of extra fullness during the hair regrowth process. SMP is a hair loss solution that is beneficial for both male and female alopecia.

When compared to other options such as highly invasive and expensive hair transplant procedures and drugs that have a multitude of side effects, SMP offers a welcome alternative. The client can completely get back their confidence over a few short visits without the risk or cost of other options.

The pigments used in these procedures have been formulated to match and perfectly blend with your skin tone and hair color.

If you are interested in SMP, areola tattoo or scar camouflage, please contact Medi Ink at 917-753-6225 to schedule your consultation.”

Success Story

Twenty four year old survivor with severe hyper-pigmentation and scarring on both breasts following a double mastectomy.

Two-part procedure consisted of needling scars and stretch marks, matching pigment to skin tone while not blending with hyper-pigmentation and adding highlights and dimension.

Healed after 3 days of tegaderm dressing followed by a light topical ointment.

“I was so grateful to be a recipient of these ladies work! I went in for a refresh and they looked great! They matched the color to my skin tone perfectly and the tattoos healed after only 3 days with tegaderm aftercare!”

Frequently Asked Questions

(3D Nipple/Areola Tattooing)

Are the pigments MRI safe?

The pigments we use are manufactured in the United States and are the highest quality available, resulting in excellent color retention and beautiful results. Our pigments are vegan, sterile and made from iron oxides, which are MRI safe.

How do I chose the color and size of my new areola?

During your consultation, we will work with you to determine the best size for your new breast and color to match your skin tone. Once the color and size are agreed upon, we will create dimension with color and shading, giving you a realistic nipple and areola. The entire procedure lasts approximately 1.5 hours and you will be amazed at the results!

How long will it last?

Most of the initial fading will happen in the first two weeks. We will schedule a follow up in 6 weeks to see if a touch up is necessary. If taken care of properly, your new tattoo should last a lifetime.

Is the procedure painful?

98% of the time, there is no pain in the reconstructed breast. If you do experience pain, we will apply a topical anesthetic to make you more comfortable.

Is there anything I can do for the scarring on my breast?

This is something that can be camouflaged depending on the type of scar. This process works best for hypo-pigmented scars that are lighter in color than the surrounding skin.

There is hair on my breast area. Should I remove it prior to the procedure?

You may pluck or shave the hair at least 48 hours prior to your tattoo procedure or receive laser hair removal. However, leaving the hair untouched will not affect the tattooing.

What can I expect?

The day of the procedure, you will want to wear a comfortable bra and bring any photos of your breasts prior to surgery if you have them

What do I need to do for After Care

The area will be covered with a dressing and you will be given specific aftercare instructions.

You will be given a comprehensive after care sheet to take home following your procedure.

Will I need another appointment?

The process is usually complete in one appointment. However, in some cases, you may require an additional touch up depending on your individual healing process.

Will the needle puncture my implant?

No, the needle only goes into the dermis, which is just 3 layers into the skin (Illustration below).

It is important to recognize the characteristics of the skin for the most realistic outcome. With the right blend of colors, we can create realistic looking nipples and areola’s and will make your scars less noticeable. Scar camouflage pigments are selected to closely match the surrounding skin and then carefully tattooed to blend with it. The result is a natural skin like appearance.

(3D Nipple/Areola Tattooing)

There are several things you can do prior to your mastectomy to help better prepare you for your areola and nipple tattooing procedure.

How do I prepare?

  1. Taking before pictures will help you to remember your areola size and shape.
  2. Consider that the skin on your new breasts might not be the same, especially if you have had radiation or TRAM Flap procedures and may affect how your skin holds pigmentation.
  3. Schedule your appointment. Four to six months following surgery is usually the minimum wait time to ensure you are properly healed prior to your procedure.

We do require that you get clearance from your doctor before prior to treatment.
